El Michi

More than a vegan restaurant. A digital home for food, community, coworking and events.

El Michi is a plant-based restaurant and community space in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. We evolved its digital identity and turned a restaurant shop window into a platform for everything that happens there: dining, coworking, events, catering and weekly meals.

The challenge

A restaurant, a coworking, a community. And a website that told only one of those stories.

El Michi is built on clear values: plant-based food, sustainability, respect for animals, a regenerative economy, and people having a good time together. The website was a shop window for the restaurant, while the place itself had become much more: a coworking space, a calendar of events, a catering service, a weekly menu.

The challenge was to give each of these experiences its own space without losing the brand’s playful personality or making the site harder to use. And to do it without turning a friendly neighbourhood place into a corporate brand.

Before and after

Same place, a new way to show up.

Before the project, El Michi was a “Cowork & Brunch” with a pink cat on a navy awning. Today the same values speak one visual language, from the round cat sign to the terrace and the take away board.

Brand

Digital rebranding

An evolution of the visual language, not a new logo: the same El Michi, finally sounding like itself online.

1.1Visual directionWarm greens, cream, peach and orange accents, expressive headlines and a tone of voice that is informal, ironic and inclusive. Conscious living doesn’t have to be boring.

1.2UI componentsPill buttons, rounded cards, bold borders and editorial layouts: a small kit of pieces every page is built from.
1.3Two brands, one conversationRemoto, the coworking inside El Michi, has a more professional character. We brought it into the site so the two identities talk to each other: El Michi as the place to eat and meet, Remoto as the place to work and network.
Design

UX/UI design

A clear journey for every service, responsive from the first wireframe.

2.1Information architectureAn SEO oriented sitemap in nine sections: home, about us, menu, Remoto, events, shop, catering, weekly menu and contact. Every offer gets its own path, the navigation stays simple.
2.2A menu made for phonesAçaí, breakfasts, plates and drinks grouped by category, each dish with ingredients, supplements and allergens, easy to read at the table.
2.3Menú SemanalFive dishes a week, with ingredients and allergens, updated by the team. People order through a pre-filled WhatsApp message, with order deadlines, pickup and a 50% deposit built into the flow.
2.4Vegan cateringA landing page for private clients, events and local businesses, with a request form that turns interest into a proper brief.
2.5Events and shopAn events archive with a page for each event and a WhatsApp message already written. A catalogue of products and merch, requested on WhatsApp, with no checkout to manage.
Development

Development

Designed in Webflow, delivered on WordPress, run by the team.

3.1From Webflow to WordPressWe built the site in Webflow, converted it with Udesly and integrated it into WordPress: the design freedom of the first, the content management of the second.
3.2Dynamic contentMenu, dishes, allergens, events and products are content the team edits on its own, without touching the design.
3.3Launch and ongoing careBasic on-page SEO for each page at launch, then support as the business grows: opening info, WhatsApp links for events, theme and URL maintenance.
